CDP have delivered a innovative mobile solution to the National House Building Council (NHBC) for use by their Health and Safety Advisors. These advisors visit building sites to confirm that the NHBC's health and safety guidelines are being adhered to.
The inspectors also audit building companies themselves in order to validate their Health and Safety Accreditation.
Previously, NHBC inspectors would hand write inspection outcomes as part of a paper-based system requiring manual keying into head office systems.
Now, using their PDA mobile devices they can directly enter data into head office systems describing in detail how the building company is conforming to expected standards. All deviations from expected standards are noted and are the subject of future re-inspections.
At any time an advisor can synchronise his local PDA based Oracle 10g Lite database with the head office Oracle database via his mobile phone using a Bluetooth connection and GPRS, with a fallback to dialup modem if GPRS is not available.
